On the afternoon of March 2nd, while the event organized by the Humanitas360 Institute, the collective Derrubando Muros, and Transparência Brasil was calling for a code of conduct in Brazil’s superior courts, Patrícia Villela Marino spoke on TMC Radio, defending the importance of restoring public trust in the country’s justice system.
Echoing the reading of the manifesto “Nobody Above the Law,” held at Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo, the H360 president underscored the need to distinguish criticism of conflicts of interest and demands for greater transparency in rulings from extremist and anti-democratic positions:
“Please, ministers, supreme dignitaries of the Judiciary, understand that this group is not extremist. We are not calling for impeachment. We do not want to destroy the system. We want to improve the system, because we are citizens of this system — both servants and served by it.”
