At a seminar held on September 10 in Brasília, Embrapa and Instituto Ficus presented the report “Regulatory Pathways for Hemp in Brazil,” prepared by the Working Group coordinated by Humanitas360 Institute President Patrícia Villela Marino within the Council for Sustainable Economic and Social Development of the Presidency of the Republic.
Offering a roadmap to advance the regulation of industrial and medicinal hemp in the country, the document seeks to make the most of the historic window opened by the Superior Court of Justice’s decision in November 2024, which authorized the importation of seeds and cultivation of the plant.
The H360 President sent a message to the event, which was read by journalist Silvia Lourenço during the opening session. “This document represents much more than a set of technical recommendations. It constitutes a true strategic map, a step-by-step roadmap for establishing the Hemp production chain on Brazilian soil, anchored in legal certainty and the most rigorous sustainable practices,” she wrote.
She also recalled the hempcrete—Hemp concrete—panel installation presented by Humanitas360 at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale, which marks the Institute’s 10th anniversary and which she described as “a testament to the distance between our innovative potential and the regulatory constraints that prevent us from materializing it.”
The report, available in the publications section of Embrapa’s website, was submitted by Patrícia Villela Marino to the Institutional Relations Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic and sent to other members of the “Conselhão,” as the CDESS is known, concluding her pro-Hemp advocacy work in the council.
The event was attended by Embrapa researchers and representatives from Ficus Institute, Instituto Escolhas, the National Industrial Hemp Association, and the Brazilian Cannabis and Industrial Hemp Association. Take the opportunity to also read the technical report “What Does Brazil Gain from Hemp Cultivation?“, conducted this year by Instituto Escolhas.
