“All you need to become a philanthropist is the will to invest any capital you have” defends Patricia Villela Marino at an event about philanthropy

This Monday, April 25th, the President of Humanitas360 Institute, Patrícia Villela Marino, participated in the Legacy event organized by the “Bem Maior Movement” (Greater Good Movement) at Santander Theater, in São Paulo. The event attended by Djamila Ribeiro, Preto Zezé, Elie Horn, Luciano Huck, among many others, aimed to spread stories and deepen conversations about philanthropy and how it can help the country.

Social entrepreneurs also shared their success stories. Ana Fontes, from Entrepreneurial Women’s Network, recalled: “Half of small businesses in Brazil belong to women. (…) Someone asked me the other day: ‘Show me some innovative women’s businesses, I just want things related to technology.’ My answer was: ‘So, you don’t think it’s innovative when a woman supports her entire family by baking cakes at home?!’”

In her speech, Patrícia Villela Marino highlighted the importance of feeling discomfort in philanthropy. Philanthropy is not only linked to financial capital, but to others much more scarce, such as time and prestige. “I enjoy demystifying philanthropy because there is an outline, as if we were going through a metaphysical process. That’s not it at all. It’s about you undressing the prince or princess status to become someone who suffers along with people, someone who suffers with the pain of others “.
