“I’m Free, Now What?”: H360 and Tereza launch series on TikTok to help people who have left the prison system

At the end of July, the Humanitas360 Institute and the social business Tereza launched the series “I’m Free, Now What?” on TikTok. The videos will offer tips and answer questions from people who have recently left the prison system and their families. Published weekly, the content will be presented by H360 and Tereza collaborators who have experienced incarceration and can now help other former imprisoned people rebuild their lives with autonomy and dignity. To watch the videos, just access the H360 channel on TikTok.

The project’s goal is to convey, in short videos with practical examples, information about the rights and duties of someone who have left prison, such as the regularization of documents and access to social benefits. The content combines the experiences of H360 and Tereza collaborators with ongoing research from the institute’s legal department to ensure the tips are not only useful but well-researched and up-to-date. Formerly incarcerated individuals and their families are also invited to leave their questions in the social network’s comments: the main ones will be analyzed by our team and may inspire new content.

Below you can watch one of the videos with English subtitles:

Larissa Itri, legal consultant at Humanitas360 Institute, believes the project “is an innovation, a strategy to demystify legal jargon and the criminal justice system, trying to bring those most affected by it closer to their rights. It is an attempt to place formerly imprisoned people as protagonists of their own stories, becoming aware of their rights and duties in a dynamic and modern way.”

For H360 project manager Laura Martini Zellmeister, the series “is part of our Information and Research Program, which aims to combine data and narratives to create a humane and proactive debate. With the project, we hope to create another channel of dialogue with society, providing information based on real needs, as well as adding demands to guide our work in promoting public policies.”
