Instituto Igarapé and H360 bring together women leaders to build a common agenda on issues concerning the environment, education, health and public safety
On August 6, the institutes Igarapé and Humanitas360 held the workshop “Mulheres em Defesa do Espaço Público” [Women in Defense of Public Space]. Bringing together women leaders from different segments of society, the objective of the meeting was to create a support and action network to face the growing challenges that social movements have encountered when working in the areas of the environment, education, health and public safety.
The dismantling of participatory boards in different spheres of civic life, through which society can participate in the development and implementation of public policies, served as the backdrop for the discussions.
Hosts Ilona Szabó de Carvalho, executive director of Instituto Igarapé, and Patrícia Villela Marino, president of Instituto Humanitas360, welcomed to CIVI-CO headquarters Juana Kweitel, from Conectas, Maria Laura Canineo, of Human Rights Watch, the attorney Luciana Temer, the writer Janine Rodrigues, Vanessa Molina, from Associação Fala Mulher and the city councilwoman Janaína Lima, member of the Partido Novo, as well as other women leaders.
Among the proposals for action developed during the workshop, which was facilitated by Bruna Lima, from Inovaria, were:
- consideration of public policies primarily in municipal sectors;
- generation of narratives and experiences that change popular conceptions;
- denouncement of violence;
- creation of dialogue through education, with an interdisciplinary agenda, in order to awaken multipliers of a culture of peace
The next joint workshop is planned for October 1.
