Humanitas360 presents its work in a class at the São Paulo Police Academy for postgraduate students

As part of the postgraduate program at the Civil Police Academy of São Paulo (Acadepol), the president of Instituto Humanitas360, Patrícia Villela Marino, gave a talk for 40 police chiefs from different cities of the state. The presentation was given at the invitation of the director of Acadepol, Julio Guebert, and Dr. Rafael Alcadipani, who in addition to teaching classes at the institution is also a researcher and professor specializing in public safety at Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV).

The presentation began with a panorama of the three programs organized by H360 (Active Citizenship, Transparency and Crime Reduction) and ended with a detailing of the current challenges of the entrepreneurial project Behind and Beyond Bars. A question and answer session followed. The challenges of resocialization of former inmates as a tool for avoiding criminal recidivism and reducing the power of criminal gangs formed the backdrop of the discussions.

As Patrícia observed, “mass incarceration and high rates of recidivism are part of a vicious cycle, through which the prison population, at the end of their sentences, return to the streets as hostages of the criminal gangs.” Entrepreneurial projects for this specific group, combining professional education, social and emotional skill development and income generation, like those developed by H360, were recognized by those present as effective alternatives for promoting the pacification of society.

In presenting its work to the upper echelon of the civil police of São Paulo, H360 is carrying out its mission to promote dialogue with different segments of society, especially professionals involved in public safety. “Today we heard an important message, which highlighted a reality we know so well from very different point of view,” commented the director of Acadepol, Julio Guebert.
