Parliamentary Front on Cannabis Defense delivers activity report; read
In August, the Parliamentary Front in Defense of Medical Cannabis and Industrial Hemp, group that brings together several deputies from São Paulo led by Sérgio Victor (New Party), presented its final activities report. The work is the result of eight public hearings with more than 30 experts and activists – such as journalist Marcelo Tas; Cidinha Carvalho, president of the CULTIVE Association; Tarso Araújo, director of the film “Ilegal” and president of the BRCann Executive Board, Brazilian Association of the Cannabinoids Industry among several others.
The event held at CIVI-CO, a social impact business center that is the home of Humanitas360, was attended by Patrícia Villela Marino, who was also present at one of São Paulo Chamber of Deputies public hearings. The group’s demands are the encouragement of the textile sector, which can use hemp as an alternative to entrepreneurship; suggests the exploitation of hemp in animal feed and asks not to mix up discussions of medical cannabis with that of industrial hemp.
One of the main objectives is to approve Bill 1,180/2019, authored by deputy Caio França (PSB) and co-authored by deputies Sérgio Victor (Novo), Erica Malunguinho (PSOL), Patricia Bezerra (PSDB), Marina Helou (Rede) and Adalberto Freitas (PSDB), which instituted a state policy of free supply of cannabidiol-based medicines in state public and private health units affiliated to the Unified Health System.
